Padlock Shield

Your security is our priority

TaxSlayer Pro safeguards your firm and taxpayer information with enterprise-grade encryption, multi-layer authentication, and a dedicated cybersecurity team — so you can focus on what matters most.

How TaxSlayer Pro protects your information

From the moment you create your account to every return you file, your data is shielded by multiple layers of technical and physical security controls.

Multi-layer authentication

Cybersecurity begins the moment you create your account. We offer safeguards that verify only authorized users can access your firm’s account.

  • Complex password creation requirements
  • Single-use verification code sent to your mobile phone or email

These features support multi-layer authentication based on your firm’s security preferences.

Taxpayer and firm information protection

Our web-based and desktop applications are protected by technical and physical security controls including:

  • Web application firewalls and intrusion detection systems
  • Network isolation, auditing systems, data classifications, and data obfuscation practices
  • Physical datacenter protections, including security personnel, controlled access points, biometrics, and monitored entry systems
  • Encryption for the transmission and storage of sensitive data

Dedicated security team

TaxSlayer Pro’s cybersecurity team works routinely with state Departments of Revenue and the IRS on security and compliance-related matters to help protect taxpayer information and preparer account data.

Continuous compliance audits

We conduct regular internal audits throughout the year to ensure our IT systems remain aligned with regulatory standards and TaxSlayer Pro’s Information Security Policy.

How you can protect your business

Strong security practices across your systems, staff, and processes are essential to protecting your firm and your clients.

Secure your devices and systems

Ensure all firm devices used to access tax software are protected with up-to-date endpoint security and regular patching. Use secure networks, firm-managed antivirus protection, and enable automatic updates to reduce exposure to known security vulnerabilities.

Control access and train your team

Restrict employee access based on their roles, and train staff to identify security threats. Require strong passwords and multi-factor authentication for all preparer accounts.

Protect taxpayer data

Establish secure processes for handling sensitive information, including restricted access, and verification of data requests. Never send confidential data through email, text message, or unencrypted channels, and securely store and dispose of taxpayer records.

Stay alert to threats

Beware of phishing emails and other online scams. Never click a link or download an attachment from an unknown or unexpected sender. If a message looks suspicious, verify the source before interacting with it.

How you can report security issues

If you suspect your firm has been compromised through a security breach, the IRS instructs tax professionals to act quickly by contacting your local IRS Stakeholder Liaison. The liaison will notify the IRS Criminal Investigation department and other appropriate IRS office agencies on your behalf.
